How Twitter designs #ForThePeople

Dantley Davis

– Chief Design Officer at Twitter

BIO & SUMMARY

Dantley Davis is the Head of Design and Research at Twitter. As a designer who values business metrics, Dantley has always looked for ways to achieve progress by marrying design and business. In his role at Twitter, Dantley supports the company’s goal to serve the public conversation and make it easier for anyone to join in by leveraging research and design.

The team found that though Twitter has over 180 million daily active users, there was still an opportunity to expand the platform to be more inclusive—to give more of a voice to people. Dantley and his team started the work internally: because they wanted to make the platform more accessible and engagement more diverse, they first focused on building a diverse team at Twitter. This team eventually went on to launch voice Tweets.

In this talk, learn how Dantley’s team codified diversity in their principles and set out to get signal on the product market fit of Twitter’s audio feature. You’ll get a look into Dantley’s process, understand how designing in the public eye can provide your team with valuable, real time feedback, and see how embracing that feedback can help you achieve business results and improve your design process.
